A s marriage brings an end to a romantic tale, it begins a new story: how does "happily ever after" really work?

The day that Jane and Elizabeth Bennet wed Charles Bingley and Fitzwilliam Darcy marks the departure point for Pemberley Manor. While Mr. and Mrs. Bingley might be expected to get on famously, Mr. and Mrs. Darcy will surely need to work on their communication skills.

What forces in Darcy's past gave such a good man so difficult a public demeanor? Will Elizabeth's cheerful optimism win the day after the honeymoon is over?

award vote for Pemberley Manor

"What a sumptuous book! I loved Ms Nelson's story of what happened to Elizabeth and Fitzwilliam after their marriage. The writing is witty and the seemingly effortless plot kept me guessing till the end. The characters we know so well are completely recognisable and believable; the new ones just as entertaining. A real tribute to Jane Austen, a sequel to re-read and treasure, a lovely big read, I laughed and cried — a tale which will stay with me for a long time."

Excitement is in the air. Pemberley Manor is reaching the bookstore shelves this month and as much as writers like to think of themselves as artists for art's sake, we all know that secretly we can't wait to see our beloved books in stock at our favorite bookstore. Mine is Magers and Quinn on Hennepin Avenue just south of Lake Street in Minneapolis (although deep in my heart I still long for the now defunct Hungry Mind). As one who believes in the urgency of minimizing our effect on the planet, I should be a champion for e-books, but as a life-long lover of books, I just can't imagine giving up the pleasures of wandering down bookstore aisles, rummaging through the specials tables and the used books. The pleasure of taking home a bag of books falls just behind the joy of having my son cook dinner.

I haven't been at Magers and Quinn for a long time, as my pile of books to read seems to have grown into a permanent sculpture while I figure out how to be a professional writer (translate: book-seller). What I'm reading these days is blogs - author blogs, marketer blogs, romance sites, reviews, how-to blogs. What I'm doing is taking classes and responding to - you guessed it - blogs. So typical of my personality to write the book and then study the craft. I'm hoping that my next book will carry the marks of this novel professionalism.

In the meantime, let the party go on. Thanks to everyone who helped me get down this road.
